Police Dog Mace PD348

  • PD Mace was born on the 23rd February 2013 as part of the Qld Police Service Dog breeding program. 
  • Mace’s dad was a serving QPS police dog.
  • Mace was partnered with a current QPD dog handler at about 10 weeks of age to begin his training journey.
  • At 12 months of age, Mace was assigned to Senior Constable Nathan HESTER of Townsville Dog Squad who continued his training until commencing his General Purpose Dog Course in June 2014, at just 16 months of age.
  • Mace passed with flying colours and finished the course in August 2014, becoming an operational police dog at 18 months of age.
  • Mace and Nathan hit the streets of Townsville in September 2015 and quickly established themselves as a reliable and formidable team.  Mace’s willingness to work was exceptional, ‘and his drive was through the roof to a point where it was actually annoying.  Great for police work, not so great for home life haha. 
  • Mace was retired in April 2023, after clocking up hundreds of successful locations across his astonishing 8 and a half years on the road in Townsville.  Mace was quite the traveller, and conducted operations throughout his career in Townsville, Ayr, Mackay, Charters Towers, Palm Island and Aurukun.
A few of Mace’s career highlights include:
  • Tracking and apprehending a murder suspect
  • Tracking through numerous yards and over fences to locate an offender who had just seriously assaulted a police officer with a baseball bat
  • Tracking for 1.5km to locate juveniles involved in the break and enter at a retirement village
  • Tracking and locating a juvenile who had taken off from a crashed stolen vehicle and hid in a massive pile of mulch.  The juvenile couldn’t be seen, however Mace indicated his presence in the mulch, and after a little convincing the assisting police dug through the mulch to locate the offender.
  • Selected as ‘Mr June’ , 2016 QPS Dog Squad Calander.

 

Mace now lives at home with Nathan and his family, lounging around the pool by day and proudly taking up duty as ‘head of backyard security’ at night.
